Superintendent's Message [2]

Superintendent's Message [2]

Vision Statement:

"Lincolnview, rooted in community, is the premier
educational destination for the success of all learners."

Mission Statement:

"Cultivating an innovative learning environment - igniting
students' minds and preparing them to excel."

“Season greetings” and a “Happy New Year” Lancer Nation to the 2017-18 Winter Edition of Lincolnview Local Schools publication of “The Lancer Lines.” We have had such an incredible start to the school year so far with many highlights and accomplishments earned by our many fine students. As we have completed the first nine weeks and over half way through the second, much energy and excitement continues to resonate through the Lancer walls each and every day. Much collaboration continues between school administration, teachers, support staff, and the school’s board of education to enhance the learning of our fine students. Great things are also happening facility wise, by the end of the year we will have a new facility, “Community Center,” which we will all be so proud and excited to use.

As we have mentioned in our past Lancer Lines, we recently have undertaken the building of a new $4.9 million dollar project called the “Lincolnview Community Center,” as well as, bus barn renovations. This 35,000 square foot facility is currently being built near the track/soccer complex and we are 1/3 of the way with completion of the project. The architects of the building are Garmann & Miller from Minster, OH and the building contractor is Muhlenkamp Builders from Coldwater, OH. We have been very pleased in working with both groups and we are currently on time with the building completion date set for May 4th, 2018, however the weather this winter will dictate if we can hit that mark or not. There have been a number of decisions and challenges bringing this project to fruition, yet it has been so exciting to see it being built each day and it has already changed the look and feel of our campus in such a positive way. We have now included on our website www.lincol¬nview.k12.oh.us (left side) a real-time camera where all Lancers can watch day by day the “Community Center” being built. So please take time out of your busy schedule to look at our website and see the progress of this new facility where sometime soon all Lancers will be enjoying, “The Lancer Way.”

We have partnered with a local educational service center to review ways to interpret academic data, report card data, and assessment data to obtain even a higher level of growth and close educational gaps in terms of more positive results. We have always performed at a high level, however we believe there are some areas we need to improve upon and we continue analyze and look for ways to gain that improvement. We are not a district of hoping to get better we are district that works hard to earn positive results with our students. Lincolnview teachers are fantastic and it is an honor for our administration to work hand in hand with them each day with Lancers finest, our students. As the state continues to change how they hold schools accountable, we too will change until a pattern of consistency will hold true from the state to our local level. We are on a very good path and the best is yet to come.

The Lincolnview – Drama club once again amazed us with their acting abilities in the play “Sitting in a Tree.” Their performance was outstanding for all four shows and the students treated us to an evening of excellence, brilliance, and a quality of high merit. Each of our Lincolnview school actors, teachers, and support personnel need to be commended and thanked for sharing their talents with all of us. A special “kudos” needs to go out to Mr. Chad Kraner, our Theatre Instructor, for his ability to write and direct this play. We are so proud of this Lincolnview teacher (alumnus), who continues to give so much of his time to our students and has consistently raised the bar for students’ interest of theatre within the halls of Lincolnview High.

The Lincolnview Local School Family would like again to say thanks for the outstanding “Veterans Day” program that was held on November 10th in the High School gymnasium. We had around 93 veterans attend this special program along with their families and current students who attend Lincolnview Local Schools.

What a special day to have our local area color guard present our nation’s flag, have our local Veterans names be read off, and to watch patriotic videos made by our elementary students thanking our veterans. I too, though would like to honor a number of special people who made all of this possible and that is Mrs. Stephanie Renner and Mr. Chad Kraner, who went beyond the call of duty to make that day so very special for our veterans. Also, Mrs. Paula Johnson, Sam Myers, the VWF-American Legion Post 178, the Middle Point Amvets 698 Ladies Auxiliary, and a number of donations to our veterans from First Federal of Van Wert, Pizza Hut of Van Wert, McDonalds of Van Wert, & Burger King of Van Wert. All in all it was a job well done.

In conjunction with the “Veteran’s Day” program this year Lincolnview partnered with the Middle Point Amvets 698 Ladies Auxiliary on bringing a canned good to the ceremony. The challenge was for all K-12 Lincolnview students and community to pack a truck/van with food to support the Lima Amvets Food Pantry who currently serve the Lima area including Van Wert County. We were able to give over 1500 food items for the pantry in one day’s worth of work. I would like to personally thank Linda Lewis and her daughter Anita King for putting this incredible service project together. I would also like to thank the teachers of Lincolnview and especially the students for rallying around such a great cause and wanting to do something extraordinary-nary for our veterans. This is why our school is so special, the outpouring of giving is so evident each and every day.

We would like to thank the following music instructors on putting on three fabulous Christmas concerts this year: Mrs. Staci Korte, Mrs. Anna Baker, & Mrs. Jennifer Slusher. Each show was so outstanding to watch and hear as our Lancer students sang & played their musical instruments. A Christmas season would not be complete without our concerts and it is truly the most magical season of the year.

This past fall our Lincolnview High School “Student Council” was nominated and awarded the “Northwest Region Humanitarian Award” by the Ohio School Boards Association of Northwest, Ohio based on our school district raising the most money for the United Way. As some of you remember the Van Wert United Way developed a student council challenge called “United Way Rivals Challenge” with Crestview Local Schools. We raised $8,012.00 to Crestview’s $6,192.00 last winter season and won the first annual “United Way Rivals Challenge.” We are again participating in the 2nd annual challenge this upcoming winter season during Lincolnview vs. Crestview “Rivalry Week” (the week of Jan. 29th – Feb. 2nd) 2018. Come on Lancer fans please show that Lancer spirit and give to a great cause that week, for we are all winners when giving.

This past fall sports season we again set a high bar of excellence within our athletic department as we are currently in the top 1/3 of the “All-Sports Northwest Conference Trophy” with our exceptional play on the court/field by our student athletes. Here are our athletic fall results that has put the Lancers in the upper echelon of the Northwest Conference:

•             Boys Varsity Golf Team – 3rd place finish

•             Boys Varsity Cross Country Team – NWC – Champions

•             Girls Volleyball – 6th place finish

•             Girls Cross Country – NWC – Runner-Up

•             Boys Soccer – 3rd place finish

•             Girls Soccer – 6th place finish

I also want to congratulate Reese Farmer for being a district qualifier in boy’s golf, Karter Tow as the “Male Runner of the Year” in the NWC, the Boys Varsity Cross Country Team finishing first in the NWC, and also placing 14th at the State Cross Country Meet. Also, the Girls Varsity Cross Country Team placing 20th in the state meet. This is the first time in school history that both teams competed at the OHSAA State Cross Country Meet in the same year. Coach Matt Langdon was also awarded as the – “Coach of the Year” - Boys Cross Country in the Northwest Conference.

With the emphasis on building the “Community Center” we would like to inform our Lancer community how blessed we are on having the Permanent Improvement (PI) Levy that this district has had for over the past 40 years. Since the passage of the PI levy in 1974, this district has witnessed its value many times over as it has been renewed eight consecutive times over its history. The Permanent Improvement Levy is defined as: "Permanent improvement" or "improvement" means any property, asset, or improvement with an estimated life or usefulness of five years or more, including land and interests therein, and reconstructions, enlargements, and extensions thereof having an estimated life or usefulness of five years or more.

Most recently the levy has allowed our district to do the following over the past five years:

> Re-surfacing and re-striping both the high school & elementary parking lots

> Upgrading the restrooms near elementary gymnasium

> Purchasing and installing LED lights in both parking lots, elementary gymnasium, high school gymnasium, & cafeteria

> Purchasing a new school van

> Purchasing a new tractor

> Upgrading and installing new tile flooring in the elementary hallways

> Installing a new “Lincolnview Local Schools” sign in front of the main campus

> Installing new roofs on the high school softball field dugouts & the jr. high baseball/softball field dugouts

> Continued maintenance on the track

> Adding additional security cameras within the school complex

> Purchasing and installing a new softball scoreboard

> Purchasing and installing new digital bus radios > Installing new hand-rails in the high school gymnasium

> Upgrading the speaker systems in both gymnasiums

> Purchasing two new busses every other year to maintain the bus fleet

As we look to the future, it is vital that this levy of specific dedicated funds, continues to be a part of our financial picture and the continued success of providing a quality learning environment to all students, and also providing well-maintained facilities for the Lancer community to use & benefit from. As a reminder the levy can only be used for buildings and grounds maintenance, care, & upkeep.

Lastly, I would also like to congratulate Mr. Eric Germann, who this year served in the office of “Past President” of the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA). OSBA is a professional organization that leads the way to educational excellence by serving Ohio’s public school board members and the diverse districts they represent through superior service, unwavering advocacy, and creative solutions. Mr. Germann served one year ago as the President of OSBA that represented over 715 school districts in the state of Ohio and also around 3400 elected board members. It is such an honor for Lincolnview Local Schools to have a board member that served as the President of such a large and influential organization. As we focus in our district to be trailblazers, leaders, and innovators, Mr. Germann led by example and shared our story with the other 700 public schools in the state of Ohio. We are again very fortunate to have someone who cares about our district that wants to make a difference in Lincolnveiw and for public education in the state of Ohio. Again, congratulations to Mr. Germann as the past President (2016) of the OSBA.

Before I conclude, I would like to personally thank Mr. Scott Miller for his four years of service as a school board member of the Lincolnview Local Schools. His dedication, commitment, and excitement for the Lincolnview Local Schools was much appreciated and noted. We would also like to welcome and introduce our newest school board member Mr. Mark Zielke, for his first term on the Lincolnview board of education. We appreciate his willingness to serve on the board and be an advocate for public education.

I would like to remind everyone that winter is upon us and we have been very fortunate so far regarding very few weather delays. As with any winter and possible school delays, please use the following services to receive information regarding school district delays and/or cancellations: radio, television, text alerts, Lincolnview website (www.lincolnview.k12.oh.us), & my twitter account (lancerway88). We strive to use many methods to send information out to the students, parents, & community regarding if school is open or not due to the weather.
