While Crestview and Lincolnview traditionally have a fierce rivalry on the courts and athletic fields, the Lancers and Knights are using that rivalry for a friendly competition that benefits United Way of Van Wert County.

united-way-rivals-united-logo-12-2016Crestview and Lincolnview school districts recently completed United Way campaigns, and administration and staff of both schools made pledges in support of the 26 agencies funded by the United Way of Van Wert County.

Crestview Local Schools greatly increased its pledges over 2015, with many pledges that will support local agencies that help within the community.

Lincolnview Local Schools also saw an increase in pledges, with a 63 percent staff participation. The United Way and Lincolnview Schools also work together to house the Lincolnview Latchkey program, which is an agency of the United Way.

Both schools are supporters of the United Way of Van Wert County, the community, and many organizations.

To continue this support and have some fun, Crestview and Lincolnview student representatives teamed up to hold a friendly competition, known as Rivals United, between the student bodies to see who can raise the most money for the United Way of Van Wert County.

This fundraising event will be held during rivalry week January 23-27, and each school district’s student body will do various activities, while more activities are scheduled for the girls’ basketball game on Thursday, January 26, and the boys’ basketball game.

The United Way will be raffling off tickets to a Cleveland Cavaliers game that were donated by Kim Hohman’s DanceWorks. The tickets are for the game on Saturday, March 25, 2017, featuring the Cavaliers vs. the Los Angeles Clippers at Quicken Loans Arena. Dancers from Kim Hohman’s DanceWorks will be performing pregame.

Rivals United t-shirts will be on sale and will be available via pre-sale only. For more information, contact the United Way office at 419.238.6689 or email  Watch for upcoming event information as the dates approach.

A new way to save time!

As you continue planning for your upcoming blood drive, we wanted to remind you about RapidPass, a new tool that allows blood donors to help save lives in less time. The blood donors at your 1/30/2017 blood drive can take advantage of this exciting new tool.

RapidPass allows your donors to complete their pre-reading and donation questions online from the comfort and privacy of their home or office; reducing the time they spend at the blood drive by up to 15 minutes. That means happier donors!

It's simple! Your donors just:

  1. Visit
  2. Read the information
  3. Answer the questions
  4. Print the pass or email it to themselves

Important to know! RapidPass cannot be completed prior to the date of the drive. Donors must complete the steps to redeem their pass on the day they donate. Donors who do not bring the printed pass with them to their donation or cannot show it on a mobile device will be asked to complete the questions again. RapidPass does not take the place of scheduling an appointment. Please encourage your donors to schedule their appointments in the same way they have done in the past.

Your donors will be asked to try RapidPass in their appointment reminders and through other Red Cross contacts, but a personal ask from you is even better. RapidPass may result in greater participation at your blood drive, since the donors have committed time to their donation before they come to your blood drive.

Saving lives is important to you and your donors, and everyone's time is valuable. Make the most of it with RapidPass.

*RapidPass must be completed on the day of your donation. You will be asked to repeat your pre-reading and health history questions again if you complete your pass before the day of your donation or if you do not have a printed copy of your pass or are unable to show the pass on your mobile device. You will be asked to complete your health history questions again if you take any medication between the time you complete your RapidPass and your physical exam at the blood drive.
